A new book ‘La fabrication des timbres-poste et du chiffre-taxe à la Monnaie de Bordeaux’ (=The Production of Postage Stamps and Revenue Stamps at the Bordeaux Mint) has been published by the French dealer, expertiser, and publisher – JFB Philatelie.
In 1929, Paul Dillemann published the book ‘Description Générale des Timbres-Poste de l’émission de Bordeaux’ (1870–1871) (=General Description of the Bordeaux Issue Postage Stamps). Since then, the few works devoted to the subject have largely reproduced Dillemann’s research, often adding inaccurate interpretations.
Pascal Buffet has returned to the sources. He has examined archival records in depth, while also undertaking a detailed study of the stamps themselves, assembling an exceptional specialised reference collection.
The work offers readers the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the Bordeaux Issue, move beyond the information found in standard catalogues, classify collections on a sounder basis, and avoid costly mistakes when acquiring material.
The first volume, comprising 246 full-colour pages, presents a comprehensive study of the issue. The second volume, containing 44 pages, reproduces the stamp proofs and transfer blocks, together with detailed plating information. They totally weigh 1.5 kgs.
The price of the book is 90. Shipping costs €15 to France, €25 to Europe, and €70 USA/Canada. Write to jfbphilatelie@gmail.com to place your order.
