(wm) Now also in Liechtenstein the die has been thrown: after Swiss Post ceased operating its stamp vending machines and printers in 2011, Liechtenstein Post has followed this example, reports the Liechtenstein newspaper “Vaterland” in its edition of 17 December 2018. According to Liechtenstein Post, the effort it was no longer worth it, as the costs for repairs and maintenance of the machines were higher than the revenues. The aforementioned newspaper reports that since 1995 there had been no updates or innovations concerning the machines. The Philately Shop in the operations centre of the Liechtenstein Post in Schaan was also finally closed in February 2018. However, there are still points of sale for philatelic products at three post offices in Schaan, Ruggel and Balzers. At the same time, Liechtenstein Post reports an increase in online orders, which are undoubtedly cheaper to process than the over the counter activities of philatelic products and postage stamps in its own shop.
