(rf/pcp) Auction house owner Dr Reinhard Fischer and his team consider it a great honour to be able to start the dissolution of the magnificent collection of German pioneer airmail and zeppelin mail by one of the greatest experts of this era with the present Volume 1.

The fascination of the early days of aviation remains unbroken to this day. The fact that this has always been the case is impressively illustrated, not least by numerous contemporary photo and picture cards, which literally “bring it home”. Alongside the numerous, sometimes adventurous flying machines and their daredevil pilots, airships have proven to occupy a special position, not least due to their awe-inspiring size. The magnificent selection of the earliest view, picture and photo cards alone elevates this passionately cultivated object far above the mass of all previous collections.

A number of additions by other enthusiasts of this multi-layered subject have been added. Above all, the aforementioned applies to the designs of Count Zeppelin, whose development culminated in regular scheduled flights, which came to an abrupt end in the Lakehurst disaster. No wonder, then, that all the documents of these giants of the skies, praised as technical marvels, have always aroused passion.

The processing was carried out, in a much more concise form than previously usual at Felzmann, by the leading authors of the MICHEL handbook “Zeppelin and Airmail Special”, to whom we would like to express our special thanks at this point. This has consequently led to a turning point in our company. With immediate effect and for the first time in this catalogue, the structure of the offer follows the MICHEL handbook, using its numbering. To make the transition easier and to provide orientation for all users of the discontinued Sieger catalogue, most of its numbers are listed at the end of the descriptions.

The dissolution of this enormous collection will be continued as part of the upcoming hall auctions, so that all interested parties will have a multi-volume handbook of aerophilately at their disposal with the richly illustrated catalogue volumes. Interested parties are welcome to make a note of the forthcoming issues.
