
A new book in the Chronik der deutschen Philatelie series on one of the pioneers of German philately, Arthur Ernst Glasewald, (1861-1926) is being released shortly. It is authored by AIJP Past President, Wolfgang Maassen, with assistance from Hans-Peter Garcarek.
Glasewald’s achievements include being:
- Germany’s first trained professional philatelist,
- Initiator and founder of numerous philatelic clubs,
- Co-founder of early working groups and associations,
- Advocate for the certification process,
- Organizer of the German Philatelists’ Days,
- Visionary behind modern exhibition systems and the collection of postal items
This 352 page biography traces Glasewald’s life and work using numerous previously unpublished sources and illustrations.
The book will be released on September 12-13 at the at the Siegburg City Museum, where it will be available for purchase as part of the anniversary event organized by the Siegburg Stamp Collectors’ Association and the Consilium Philatelicum.
