Karlfried Krauß, Potsdam

For many years, the philatelic world has known Karlfried Krauß as an excellent and knowledgeable researcher, collector and extremely successful exhibitor. As a fair auctioneer, he has enriched philately and many exhibits with his knowledge of numerous national and international specialities. As the author of many specialist philatelic articles and important literature, such as the Handbook of Prussian Philately, he has supported collectors, clubs and working groups with his experience. He is known and appreciated as a competent and always helpful philatelist.

Brief biography: Born in Potsdam in 1952, where he also lives. Initially a graduate melioration engineer, he has been a professional philatelist since 1990 and, until a few years ago, was co-owner of the auction house ‘Potsdamer Philatelistisches Büro GmbH’.

Philately: Karlfried Krauß is an excellent, knowledgeable philatelic researcher, collector and exhibitor. His exhibits ‘Reused Saxony stamps in the breast shield period’ and ‘Prussia as the main link in the Russian-Polish mail with the West’ have won international awards.

Specialist areas: Prussia, NDP, Saxony, German Reich breast shield issues

Member: Member of various associations since 1963, co-founder and head of the AK Preußen (Prussia Working Group) in the Kulturbund during the GDR era; member of the Briefmarkenklub Hannover (Hanover Stamp Club).

Author: Karlfried Krauß is the author of many specialist articles in ArGe publications, particularly in the DASV; editor of Die Preußischen Nummernstempel. Dokumentation und Handbuch 2009 (Prussian Number Stamps. Documentation and Handbook 2009).

Jürgen Witkowski, Essen

Jürgen Witkowski has been involved in many areas of philately for many decades. He has led, shaped and enriched clubs and working groups with his diligence, perseverance and extensive philatelic knowledge – and he continues to do so today. His organisational talent was particularly evident in the staging of IBRA 2023, to which he made a decisive contribution. From 2017 to 2021, he was a member of the BDPh Federal Executive Committee and responsible for research and literature. Many members of the BDPh also value Jürgen Witkowski as the head of the Poststempelgilde (postmark guild), which does excellent work.

Brief CV: Born on 15 April 1955, studied landscape management, most recently as a landscape architect specialising in stream monitoring for large-scale projects in garden, landscape and sports facility construction.

Philately: Collector since 1963, juror, including rank 1 for literature, exhibition director and organiser of numerous philatelic events (national and international championships in thematic philately, various salons, ArGe literature exhibition in Sindelfingen and Ulm, core team for the implementation of IBRA 2023).

Specialist areas: History of machine stamps with a focus on Germany, machine advertising stamps, small print stamps, machine series stamps, Essen-Steele postal history collection.

Member: Member of numerous associations, mostly in leading positions; ArGe RUHR, ArGe Neues Handbuch, Poststempelgilde (chairman since 2022), FG Großbritannien, ArGe Vorausentwertungen, ArGe Lochungen, Bundes-ArGe Preußen, DASV, AIJP, Royal Philatelic Society London, member of the BDPh board 2017-2021 responsible for research and literature.

Author: Including Standard der Berliner Postämter bis 1945 (Standard of Berlin Post Offices until 1945); numerous articles in the Gildebrief der Poststempelgilde, in the newsletters of the FG Großbritannien, the ArGe Krone/Adler, the ArGe RUHR, and in German Postal Specialist.

Harald Krieg, Neuss

With Harald Krieg, the Federal Executive Committee has appointed a slightly younger member to our Consilium. Harald Krieg has been enriching philately for years, particularly in working groups, with his expertise, diligence and perseverance. He is a role model and positive example for many members in clubs and working groups within the BDPh, as he enjoys expanding and passing on his philatelic knowledge, which is continuously demonstrated through his knowledgeable contributions to publications and lectures. His interest in areas of the African continent and his view beyond borders enrich philately as a whole. …’

Brief biography: Harald Krieg was born on 30 February 1970 and is a graduate chemist.

Philately: Harald Krieg has been a dedicated collector and philatelic researcher for many years. He is particularly interested in certain areas of the African continent, where he also leads philatelic diaspora work.

Harald Krieg supports and promotes the work of the relevant working groups, in particular the Colonial Postage Stamps Working Group, through lectures and publications.

Specialist areas: Exhibits on ‘The service stamps of Tanzania’ and other African countries, as well as ‘Fiscal philately of the German colonies’.

Member: Member of the Fiscal Philately Working Group, managing director of the Colonial Postage Stamps Working Group.

Author: Harald Krieg is the author of many articles in publications of the ArGe Kolonialpostwertzeichen (Colonial Postage Stamps Working Group).
