(Wiesbaden/pcp) From 18 to 27 September 2025, Germany’s oldest stamp auction house, Heinrich Köhler, will open its doors for its traditional autumn auction in Wiesbaden. With seven special catalogues, an impressive main catalogue and an additional catalogue for collections, the 386th auction showcases the great diversity and beauty of philately and promises to be a real highlight for collectors and philately enthusiasts. For the first time, an auction of ‘small treasures’ will take place in addition to the classic hall auction. This auction, which will be held exclusively online at the beginning of the auction week, presents a diverse selection of ‘small but fine’ lots from all areas of collecting with comparatively low starting prices – a perfect opportunity for beginners and experienced collectors alike.

Special catalogues with impressive collections

There is a particular focus on the exceptional special collections, which are presented in the traditional manner in beautifully designed catalogues. The collection, ‘The Universal Postal Union (UPU) and its Impact on Global Postal Services — The JP Gough Collection’, documents an exceptional period in the history of international postal services. It highlights the profound changes that accompanied the founding of the UPU, offering exciting insights into the history of global communication through its rare and extraordinary items.

For lovers of classic British philately, Richard Frajola’s collection, Queen Victoria: The Unperforated Line-Engraved Issues, is an absolute must. The legendary ‘Penny Black’ and its subsequent unperforated issues featuring the iconic image of Queen Victoria remain among the world’s most famous stamps today. This collection uniquely reflects the enduring fascination surrounding these stamps and showcases a variety of rare and valuable pieces. The same applies to the ‘Russia No. 1’ collection, which showcases highlights from the ‘Elin’ collection. Visitors can expect to see the full diversity of Russia’s first stamp issue, which provides a unique insight into philately and postal history through rare items.

The third part of the sale of the ‘Helgoland – The Hans-Jürgen Borowski Collection’ is also highly anticipated, featuring a variety of exceptional lots. The sales of the ‘Baghira’ (German Empire breast shields, 1872–75, Part II), ‘Calibra’ (German colonies and foreign post offices, Part II) and ‘Germany from 1849’ (Part II) collections by Bruce Wright will also continue, all of which offer numerous highlights.

The main catalogue features an array of attractive special items and collections

It has become a tradition that the extensive main catalogue includes not only valuable individual items but also a wide range of outstanding special items that are in high demand. At the autumn auction, collectors can look forward to an offering entitled ‘Kingdom of Hanover – The Knut Gerschau Collection’, an extraordinary Munich local history collection, a collection on the theme of ‘Printing stones from Heligoland and Romagna’, designs by the artist Heinz Schillinger and a compilation entitled ‘Contemporary History 1941/48’ by Dr Heinz Jaeger. In addition, further lots from the Ton Hulkenberg collection (Danzig – From Pre-Philately to 1945 – Part II), a collection of ‘Ship Post until 1945’ by Friedrich Steinmeyer and an offering entitled ‘Post in Russia – The Jack Moyes Collection’ will be auctioned, to name but a few examples.

The other attractive items in the main catalogue are followed by a second main catalogue devoted exclusively to collections, which is equally impressive across the board.

‘Kleine Schätze’ offers an extensive range of small but exquisite rarities.

A new feature of the autumn auction is the exclusive online auction mentioned at the beginning. For the first time, Heinrich Köhler will be offering a carefully selected collection of attractive individual lots from all over the world at the beginning of the auction week, which can be classified as ‘small but fine’. Nevertheless, these lots, offered at comparatively low starting prices, provide excellent opportunities to add to your own collections, discover new treasures or venture into a new area of collecting. Written participation is possible in advance in the usual manner. The auction itself will be conducted as an online auction with the option of participating via the proven in-house ‘online live bidding’ system at www.heinrich-koehler.de.

The complete catalogue of the 386th Heinrich Köhler Auction will be available from mid-August 2025 with detailed information and numerous images at www.heinrich-koehler.de in the online catalogue (also available as a PDF flipbook).
