(wm-pcp) Pablo Reim is anything but an international unknown. Born in Argentina (23 June 1955 in Buenos Aires), he was a marketing director at a well-known company for a long time, but then changed direction in 2011 and switched to agriculture and livestock farming. His agricultural businesses are now managed by his son Federico Guillermo (born 1983). He has four children with his wife Liliana Palese and several grandchildren.

Inspired by his father Armando Federico Reim, he started collecting stamps at the age of twelve and, after a long break, returned to the hobby thirty years later in 1997. In 1998, he started a collection of classic Argentine stamps, which he first exhibited in Malaga (Spain) in 2006 and which already won a first Grand Gold Medal in Israel in 2008 and was nominated for the Grand Prix in Bangkok (Thailand) in 2018. Over time, he put together seven collections on Argentina, Brazil, Corrientes and Uruguay, all of which were awarded the Grand Gold Medal. Four of these collections are documented in Edition d’Or volumes: No. 54 – Argentina 1867–1887; No. 55 – Brazil. The Dom Pedro Issues 1866–1878; No. 62 – Argentina. Corrientes 1856–1880 and No. 66 – Argentina – Stagecoaches 1852–1870.

In this new edition, volume 75, Pablo Reim presents his traditionally structured collection ‘Brazil Classic Issues 1843–1861’, which he built up after the first three stamp series of Brazil. He devotes around 30 pages to the legendary ‘ox-eyes’ from 1843, followed by almost 50 pages for the ‘goat-eyes’ that appeared from 1844, and a further 36 pages for the ‘cat’s eyes’, which were printed in black from 1850 and in other colours from 1854 and 1861. This collection was awarded the Grand Prix National at the FIP exhibition Brasiliana 2017. Anyone who reads the book carefully will know why. This collection contains countless rarities such as large units, rare letters and postmarks, including coloured ones, as well as little-known mixed frankings. The quality of the material shown is impressive and rarely leaves anything to be desired. It is often stated that a letter with a particular stamp (such as those from Sabará or Goyaz, to name just two examples) is the only one known or that a unit is the largest known to date. This makes the book a successful introduction to the magical world of classic Brazilian philately, which has lost none of its appeal to this day.
