(wm-pcp) Those who visited the Heinrich Köhler auctions in Wiesbaden at the end of September 2024 could already admire it – at least the part that could be seen on the walls of the auction room in attractive floor-to-ceiling shelves: 2,500 monographs! On 6 December, Dieter Michelson, the company’s managing director, also presented a matching ‘announcement brochure’ written in English by philatelic historian Wolfgang Maassen, which introduces and describes this almost unique library in more detail. The title: ‘The “PARIS” Library of Philatelic Literature’. It comprises 62 large-format pages with a biography of the renowned owner, Tomas Bjäringer RDP Hon FRPSL from Stockholm, who had already provided a first glimpse of his collection of special literary rarities in a special exhibition with 20 display cases at STOCKHOLMIA 2019.

This brochure provides more in-depth insights into the collection, as the author presents not only the groups of the collection, but also selected examples of special titles that illustrate the characteristics of the way and what Bjäringer collected in around 50 years: rarity and beauty, good preservation and special features. Limited editions or even very small print runs with numbered copies, dedications and signatures are just a few of the numerous examples of these literary treasures. You can read up on them on around 60 pages.

The auction will take place in Wiesbaden on 15 November 2025, and the special ‘bibliophile’ auction catalogue – far more extensive than ‘normal’ auction catalogues for such occasions – will be available and sent to interested parties as early as August 2025. To top off this extraordinary event and to highlight the importance of philatelic literature, the auction house Heinrich Koehler, in cooperation with the AIJP, the world association of philatelic authors and journalists, will host an international philatelic literature congress in Wiesbaden on 13 and 14 November, for which preparations are already underway. It will certainly be an exciting event.
