James Bendon (1937–2026) war ein renommierter Philatelist, hauptberuflicher Briefmarkenhändler und Autor. Er begann 1971 in London mit dem Handel, bevor er 1987 nach Zypern zog. 2014 kehrte er nach London zurück und ging 2023 in den Ruhestand.
Er gilt als Pionier auf dem Gebiet der Erforschung von UPU-Mustermarken und verfasste ein Buch zu diesem Thema, das in zwei Auflagen erschien. Am meisten in Erinnerung geblieben ist er jedoch für seine Tätigkeit als Verleger. Zwischen 1988 und 2006 veröffentlichte er von seinem Standort in Zypern aus eine Reihe von Originalwerken sowie einige Nachdrucke wichtiger, vergriffener Bücher (eine vollständige Liste findet sich weiter unten). Seine Publikationen wurden professionell gesetzt und in hervorragender Qualität auf hochwertigem Papier gedruckt. Sie wirken heute noch genauso modern wie vor 25 bis 30 Jahren (abgesehen vom Schwarz-Weiß-Druck, wie er damals üblich war, da der Farbdruck sehr teuer war).
Obwohl Bendon am 4. Mai 2026 verstorben ist, veröffentlicht seine Familie zu seinem Gedenken sein letztes Buch – „Great Britain used in Morocco: Unoverprinted British Postage Stamps and Postal Stationery used by the British Postal Service in Morocco 1872–1885 and 1937–1949“ (=Großbritannien in Marokko: Unüberdruckte britische Briefmarken und Postwertzeichen, die vom britischen Postdienst in Marokko in den Jahren 1872–1885 und 1937–1949 verwendet wurden). Die Familie betreibt zudem seit einiger Zeit seine Website.
Dieses 144-seitige, gebundene Buch steckt voller Informationen, die für Sammler von Briefmarken aus Marokko, Gibraltar und Großbritannien, die im Ausland verwendet wurden, von Interesse und Wert sind. Postkarten und Einschreibeumschläge (einschließlich derer mit dem Aufdruck „TANGIER“) werden ausführlich behandelt.
