02.11.2018 - Internationale Briefmarken-Börse Sindelfingen: Portrait-Pluscard was a big hit!

(jb) With the support of Deutsche Post, every visitor to the 36th ‘Internationale Briefmarken-Börse‘ in Sindelfingen (Germany, held on 25, 26 and 27 October 2018) had the opportunity to have his personal portrait integrated and printed into the 45 cent value stamp that adorned a so-called PlusCard that was specially designed for the fair. The first copy of this personal postcard, which was ideal for sending greetings, was free of charge. The demand was so great from the very beginning that by the end of the second day of the fair, the entire prepared edition of 2,000 postcards was sold out.
Of course, philatelic topics were once again at the top of the agenda for the numerous visitors. At the booth of Deutsche Post (the largest exhibitor of the fair) the special postmark for "Stamp Day", which commemorated the 150th anniversary of the North German postal district, was the most popular.
The ‘Internationale Briefmarken-Börse‘ in Sindelfingen is known beyond the borders of Germany thanks for its numerous exhibitions and its special shows. One object particularly interested the assembled press and radio: the Hiroshima letter. The cover was found shortly after the atomic bomb had been dropped in 1945 on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. The finding was made during a clean-up operation. This historical document, which is still slightly contaminated with radiation and is therefore exhibited in a special lead cuff, was exhibited in the booth of the Association of Southwest German Stamp Collectors.
Every year Sindelfingen is the highlight for collectors interested in postal history. The results of the international competition exhibition "Postgeschichte LIVE" were therefore eagerly awaited. "Golden Posthorns" for the best exhibits went to Gerhard Blaickner (A), Rainer Fuchs (D), Alfred Schmidt (D), Adriano Gergamini (CH), H. van Dooremalen (NL), Helmut Kobelbauer (A), Karlfried Krauß (D) and Dr. Gertlieb Gmach (D).
The dates for the 37th ‘Internationale Briefmarken-Börse‘ in Sindelfingen has already been fixed: 24, 25 and 26 October 2019. The latest information can be found on the Internet at the address
