06.08.2017 - In Memoriam: Brian Moorhouse

(wm) Philatelists from all over the world will have been shocked when they heard the news that Brian Moorhouse, renowned Central and South America specialist, expert and professional philatelist had died on 15 July 2017 in Petersborough. Only a few weeks ago, he was present at FINLANDIA in Tampere (Finland), where his Haiti collection received Large Gold. He had already the first radiotherapy behind him, after he had been diagnosed with cancer in January. He didn’t survive the second phase of his chemotherapy and died peacefully, surrounded by his wife Mimi and the rest of his family.
Brian Moorhouse was one of the great experts of Latin philately. As a trader, he specialized since the 1970s and for many years published the magazine "The Mainsheet", a publication that he used to publish the results of his research. Brian was a cosmopolitan and visited with his wife more than 200 countries and territories. You could find him in a dealer’s booth at nearly all major international exhibitions worldwide.
To get an impression of the kind of person Brian Moorhouse one should read the farewell messages that can be found in the impressive digital condolence register that his wife Mimi created. You will find it at this address: http://brianmoorhouse.com/memory/. In this way, Mimi wants to keep his memory alive. Together with the auction house Corinphila in Zurich a publication will be made that documents his most recent collection of Haiti. In September, the Royal Philatelic Society in London will have a "come together" for all his friends.
Everyone who knew Brian will remember his humor, his mischievous smile, his helpful support. He died at the age of 68, much too early. International philately will miss him painfully.
