With the expiring of the application deadline for the international literature exhibition IPHLA 2012 in Mainz (Germany) on 1 February 2012, it has become clear how popular the exhibition is. Although officially from that date on it was no longer possible for authors, publishers and study groups to enter the event, still individual applications kept coming in. So far more than 560 applications have been dropped on the desks of the organisers.

A bit of a surprise is the ‘ranking’ of the participants when one looks at the countries they represent. Germany’s of course is ‘top dog’ with 292 exhibits, so just a little more than half of all exhibits. Second largest is Italy (46 exhibits), followed by the Netherlands (20), Poland and Switzerland (both 19), Britain, Russia and the USA (16).

Also a surprise is the ranking of Argentina: with its 12 exhibits it beats Austria (10), Romania (9) and France (8)! There another 21 countries participating in IPHLA 2012, including New Zealand, India, Australia and South Africa, to name just a few

There will be, on 26 March 2012, a meeting of the philatelic selection committee of IPHLA 2012. At this meeting the participants will be officially confirmed, after which they will be notified offically. Everyone who has so far been hibernating should awake quickly: there are only a few days left to see whether any new applications will be accepted thanks to a final ‘grace period’!
