Offering a time journey through Beethoven´s life in an unusual format, the Beethoven-Haus in Bonn (Germany) will, from 19 March on, offer a special exhibition titled Beethoven in Stamps. It concerns a collection from Japan, which focuses entirely on Beethoven and his life.

The Japanese stamp collector Yukio Onuma, President of Music Philately Group of the Japan Philatelic Society, has devoted much of his life to the subject ‘Beethoven’. He has now brought together parts of his extensive collection of philatelic and postal Beethoven items to form an exhibition with which he has won already numerous awards, like a gold medal at the World Stamp Exhibition PhilaNippon 2011. Onuma extends this travelling collection continuously, with the aim of presenting a comprehensive picture of Beethoven and everything that surrounded, affected and influenced the composer. The story of Beethoven’s life as told by the Japanese collector can be compared to a kaleidoscope showing a variety of philatelic exhibits. In addition to the often beautiful and ornate stamps there are also certain rarities to be seen, such as original designs, artwork, proofs, colour essays and varieties. There also numerous meter marks, postcards and special cancellation on show.

The special exhibition Beethoven in Stamps can be seen in the Beethoven-Haus in the German city of Bonn, Bonngasse 18-26. The exhibition runs from 19 March until 24 June 2012.
