It may seem a bit strange, but it seems that the United States Postal Service has no intentions to dedicate one or more postage stamps to the main sports event of the year 2012: the Olympic Summer

It may look a bit strange, but it seems that the United States Postal Service has no intention to dedicate one or more postage stamps to the main sports event of the year 2012: the Olympic Summer Games. The reason is probably that the Olympic Committee – always eager to protect its image, and especially the use of the well-know Olympic trademark (five interlocking rings of different colours, symbolising the five continents) – and US Post can not find a way to bridge the gap between what the OC wants and the US Post wishes to pay.

The same thing happened in 2000: then, only a 33c stamp appeared that referred (indirectly) to the Summer Olympics (see picture). The inscription of that stamp read ‘Summer Sports’…
