On 9 February 2011, a special German postage stamp dedicated to the jubilee ‘125 years of narrow gauge railways in the Harz Mountains’ has been issued. The narrow-gauge railways are among the major attractions of the Harz Region: enthusiasts from all over the world visit Germany to photograph the historic steam locomotives that are still in use there. Especially amongst stamp collectors the railway topic is very popular. In addition to the stamp, a maximum card has been issued, and a special hand stamp was in use, depicting a steam locomotive from the so-called Selketalbahn.

The network of the Harz narrow-gauge railways has a length of more than 140 kilometers. This is proudly stated in the slogan of the railways: ‘The greatest amongst the little ones’; true, because there is no longer narrow-gauge network to be found in Germany.

Those interested in the philatelic products of the Harz railways may contact Dietrich Ecklebe, Herzogstrasse 24, D-38889 Blankenburg (Germany). You can also send an E-mail message: dietrichecklebe@alice-dsl.net.
