PostNL, the postal administration of the Netherlands, has apparently been influenced by one of the successes of the Doobie Brothers, ‘Listen to the music’. It would explain why the Dutch post has issued a postage stamp with a special ‘music function’. Anyone who ownes a smartphone and downloads the right App can play the music that is invoked by the stamp. Of course, the stamp can be used also as a normal means for franking mail, but if you scan the postage stamp with your iPhone or other smartphone, you will hear the song ‘Radar Love’, performed by the popular Dutch rock band ‘Golden Earring’. As said, it requires the installation of a special App, in this case ‘Chameleon Explorer’. A nice gimmick that shows that a simple stamp can do so much more than just looking good on an envelope, thus embellishing our letters. PostNL has announced that a number of other ‘musical stamps’ will be issued in due time.
