Cornelia Brettl (42), member of the official German league of philatelic experts (BPP) and daughter of the well-known expert Maria Brettl, died on 17 December 2011 after a serious illness. Since 2004, Cornelia Brettl has been working with an unrestrained commitment in her speciality fields: Heligoland and Lübeck as well as airmail of Bavaria and the German Empire. In early 2011, she even began to enlarge her fields of expertise.

Being a qualified biologist, she was, up until 2001, active in medical research and then returned with renewed zest to her childhood hobby: philately. Christian Geigle, President of the BPP, comments: ‘We have lost a young expert, someone who not only was able to convince others technically, but also acted as an open, cheery colleague, someone who managed to uplift others. Our thoughts are with her daughter Paula and her mother, the longtime BPP expert Maria Brettl.’
