The Philatelic Foundation is a well-known American institution that was founded in 1945 in New York. The foundation has since worked for the advantage of philately. In the past 66 years, renowned experts and auditors have been examining and attesting more than 500.000 philatelic objects. Two years ago, the foundation announced an ambitious project: it expressed its wish to publish all its certificates on the website www.philatelicfoundation.org.

And now this "On-Line Stamp Image Library Project" shows already a remarkable progress. When the new database came available (August 2010), 133.000 stamps and covers that had been examined between April 2000 and April 2010 were placed online. At the moment, over 325.000 objects have been placed on the website, stamps and covers that were examined in the period between July 1984 and June 2011.

The advantage of the project is obvious, especially for collectors and dealers with an interest in certain valuable philatelic objects. They can inform themselves about the objects and they can obtain a lot of interesting information about the examination, even from years ago. Since the examined objects can be magnified on-line it is possible to have a close look and to see what their condition was when they were examined.
