As a part of the anniversary ‘75 years Day of the Postage Stamp in Luxembourg’, a book will be published by the Philatelic Circle ‘SOPHIA’ in the town of Wiltz. It concerns a publication about counterfeited stamps and hand stamps of Luxembourg and it also deals with Luxembourg stamps that have been tampered with.

Mr. Lars Boettger, author of the book (titled ‘Fälschungen, Falschstempel und Manipulationen von Luxemburger Briefmarken’) and also acting head of the German BDPh bureau that busies itself with falsifications, presents in his publication many hi-resolution images that depict various manipulations and falsifications. The book focuses on the traditional issues, but also on those stamps that were issued immediately before the war and those that appeared during the occupation of Luxembourg.

The dramatic change in the buying habits of the collectors – nowadays, through the Internet, one can buy at any time of the day or night a vast number of attractive stamps – have not gone unnoticed on the guild of the counterfeiters: they have reacted accordingly. Again and again they put on offer material that later on proves to be falsified or been tampered with, whilst the sellers at the time insisted that it concerned genuine stamps and/or hand stamps.

The best protection against fraud is knowledge. And to gain this knowledge a collector will have to take not of the existing literature. Lars Boettger’s book can help beginning collectors as well as the more experienced philatelists to recognize, discover or to unveil fraud, falsifications and manipulations. His publication deserves a place in the libraries of serious collectors.

Philatelists that are interested can order the book for 25 Euros (plus 3 Euros for packing and postage). They may contact the Cercle Philatélique ‘Sophia’ in Wiltz (Luxembourg) by sending an email message ( sophiawiltz@globe.lu ); they can also phone at the Secretariat of the Cercle: +352691789673.
