16.03.2018 - The 2018 AIJP Congress will take place in Prague on 18 August

(wm) The International Philatelic Exhibition PRAGA 2018 will take place from 15.-18. August 2018 at the Clarion Congress Hotel Prague, Freyova 33, Praha 9. The event is considered the biggest philatelic event in Europe this year. It follows the tradition of the international PRAGA exhibitions dating back to 1938.
The event celebrates several important anniversaries: 100th anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia, 100th anniversary of the first Czech stamp, 100th anniversary of the founding of the Postal Museum in Prague, 100th anniversary of the end of World War I and 25th anniversary of the creation of the Czech Republic.
The most valuable attraction of the exhibition will be the legendary rarities ‘Blue Mauritius’’, the ‘Red Mauritius’ and the so-called "Bombay Cover" that bears two 1d stamps with the inscription ‘Post Office’. The latter was sold in 1968 in the USA as one of the most expensive philatelic covers of all time. All these three rarities are now in the possession of a stamp collector from the Czech Republic.
But there is yet another reason to visit PRAGA 2018: the fact that the International Association of Philatelic Journalists (AIJP) was founded Prague, in the year 1962. This energetic group of 500 – editors, journalists and authors - will be present at PRAGA 2018; the organisation will hold its annual congress on Saturday 18 August 2018, from 10:00 until 12:00. There will be two presentations and it seems certain that during these lectures there will be ample time to remember the early days of the AIJP's creation, during the days when “cold war" still prevailed among many countries of the world. The AIJP was the first philatelic association to overcome these political boundaries and to bring authors and journalists together.
The congress is open to everyone: visitors and interested parties are welcome. The exact location will be communicated later. General information about the exhibition can already be found on
