22.01.2018 - IPHLA postponed until 2021

(wm) In the German town of Wittenberg a kind of promise was made to organise the next "International Literature Exhibition" in the year 2019. It would have taken place together with Germany’s national Philatelists Day and several exhibitions. A location was also mentioned: the FORUM in the German city of Leverkusen (s. picture). A feasibility study was previously prepared by Wolfgang Maassen, organizer of the last IPHLA in Mainz 2012. And everything seemed to be going fine – if there wouldn’t have been external factors that would have made the implementation impossible.
For example, the required hotels in Leverkusen declared themselves unwilling to make long-term reservations for larger room contingents for the requested date in the first week of September 2019. The main consideration of the hotels was it could be possible to realise even more profitable bookings for the fall of 2019, like for the visitors of major fairs in Cologne or Düsseldorf. Apart from that the International Literature Exhibition in Verona was postponed, LONDON 2020 stood in the way and last but not least there was the STOCKHOLMIA event (May/June 2019) that would certainly offer a broad range of literature exhibits.
So numerous reasons made a time shift seem sensible, especially since the German League of Stamp Collctors (BDPh) has given itself the task of looking for a new venue for the Philatelists Day, which it hopes find somewhere in the middle of Germany. A new edition of the IPHLA is therefore planned for 2021.
