22.07.2016 - Swiss Post enables identification by video

Thanks to Swiss Post, the legally valid identification of Swiss individuals by video in real time over the Internet is now possible. The service is designed for companies, authorities and institutions that need one-off verification of the identity of natural persons for their administrative processes. With Video ID check, their customers can identify themselves quickly and easily, wherever they are.
Who hasn’t been there? To open a bank account, order a criminal records extract or apply for a residence permit, your personal identity has to be proved unambiguously. Until now, that always meant a personal interview or submission of a copy of your ID document, as well as a wait of several days until the conclusion of the agreement. This will soon be a thing of the past. With Swiss Post’s Video ID check, natural persons can be identified quickly and easily online, wherever they are, and in four languages. The solution can be easily integrated into the existing processes, portals and applications used by companies and authorities.
For users, the process is simple and structured, and requires only a computer with a webcam and microphone or a smartphone. Just make the video connection, hold the front and back of a valid ID up to the camera, have a photo of your face taken, and your identity is verified. The service is available until 10 p.m. on working days and until 1 p.m. on Saturdays, and is available immediately.
Compared to conventional identification procedures, Video ID check has considerable benefits in terms of convenience and time savings. The identification takes just a few minutes and can be done by users wherever they are. With this innovation, Swiss Post is adding another practical service to its product range at the interface between the physical and the digital, in response to changing customer requirements and growing mobility among the population.
This Swiss Post solution meets all legal requirements and applies the highest standards for data and privacy protection. Swiss Post does not store any data itself.
