11.03.2016 - UNPA: for the equality of the LGBT’s

(wm) Perhaps you wonder what the abbreviation LGBT means. The answer is quite simple: LGBT stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender. Persons who belong this group often are marginalized and sometimes even are persecuted, a fact that worried the United Nations so much that the organization started a special campaign called ‘Free and Equal’.
The Postal Administration of the UN supports the campaign with an intricately designed stamp series that was issued on 5 February 2016. The UNPA defines its concern about treatment of people belonging to the LGBT group very clearly: " Equality is a fundamental principle of human rights. All human beings – whoever they are, wherever they live, whomever they love – are entitled to enjoy the same basic rights, free from arbitrary interference. All States, regardless of their political, economic and cultural systems, have a legal duty to promote and protect the human rights of all. LGBT people, like everyone else in the world, are entitled to live their lives free from fear, violence, discrimination and persecution."
